Project 811

Hi, I’m Steve Moraff. For 15 years I’ve been renting apartments to Cornell graduate students in Fall Creek, and now I’m using one of those units—just a mile from campus—as a real-world experiment: a low-pressure incubator for programmers and AI enthusiasts to explore and build fun educational apps. If it clicks, we’ll expand to more apartments.

Here is the deal: only $500/month (all utilities and Internet included) for a spot in Project 811.

What is Project 811?

Project 811 is an open-ended experiment: we don’t yet know where it will go—it depends on what we create. We’re offering three openings with 10–12 month leases (adjustable to your needs), and if the experiment thrives, we’ll renew and grow into more apartments.

This is for programmers who know their way around code and AI. If you’ve built and shipped apps before, even better. Contribute as much as you like (and have time for), and help shape the future of Project 811.

Who is Steve Moraff?

I am Steve Moraff, the creator of MoraffWare, a company that produced computer games many years ago. I stepped away from game development some years ago and since then have experimented with various projects—like creating a 3D programming language just for fun. Now I’m considering coming out of retirement to build world-class educational software that boosts users’ AI-savvy and brainpower. I’m especially passionate about apps for learning languages (Chinese, Russian, and Spanish are special to me) and math. While I’ve coded in many languages, my current AI experiments are all in JavaScript.

Where Will Project 811 Go?

We don’t know yet—it all depends on what participants do and where we all want to take it. Project 811 isn’t designed to chase huge profits, but it would be amazing if we can make a real contribution. There’s even the possibility that this experiment could evolve into a formal organization that buys the 811 property and continues the work long-term. Those of us who start it this year might become the founders of that future venture.

The Details

Participants will sign a standard adjustable lease—no surprises—for the academic year ending in May. If you need accomodations during the Summer of 2026, we'll see if we can accomodate that.

There’s no formal requirement to produce work, and Project 811 claims no ownership over anything you create—unless you opt into a project explicitly defined as a Project 811 initiative. We encourage open source, and you’re free to continue personal or side projects independently.

Think of it as a giveaway of space and community, with the hope of sparking unexpected, mutual benefits.
